Narrative Therapy India
Narrative Therapy India is a social media platform dedicated to document diverse ways in which narrative ideas and practices are used in India. This platform dedicated to narrative work, is the first of its kind in India and is the brain-child of the Ummeed Mental Health Team.
Founded in 2014, Narrative Therapy India, has discussed everything from the use of narrative ideas in the Indian context to the adaptation of narrative ideas and practices in supervision and training and translating into local languages.
The stories shared on the blog invite individuals to explore diverse ways of using narrative practices with individuals, groups and communities. The first ever post narrates the journey of Sanjay a boy experiencing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and how through the narrative technique of externalizing he was able to gain a new perspective on his difficulties and called it ‘pareshani’. Since then the blog has travelled with the team to Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and many more places as a witness to the work and development of ideas. Narrative Therapy India holds stories of community mental health workers and their exploration of narrative ideas and practices, it holds the impact of narrative trainings conducted and attended by the Ummeed team.
As a living document of Narrative Therapy’s journey in diverse cultures of India, the blog captures the movement and momentum of Narrative ideas and practices in India.
We hope that this living document grows roots to connect narrative ideas from different parts of this vast diverse culture called India.
